An Ounce of Prevention...

by Rick Brooks

In caring for our physical health, often times we wait until a crisis occurs to begin eating better, exercising, and practicing better prevention. Then we begin to search through books and on the web, ask friends, and seek out competent advisors to help set our health back in order. The same seems to hold true for spiritual problems. We tend to go merrily on our way till something goes haywire and then we panic, say a quick prayer, perhaps crack open a dusty Bible for a few minutes of frenzied scanning, call a friend who is an armchair theologian who hasn't been to church in a while, and then hope that we can stumble our way through the crisis till it goes away. In both cases, physical and spiritual, preventative care is worth more than a pound of hastily sought cure. If we do our research early, we can prevent a lot of problems that we bring on ourselves. If God has brought us to a place of testing on purpose and not through a fault of our own, we are better prepared to pass the test if we know the proper response already before it happens--and those times WILL happen!
